The cold rush of wind slaps my bare skin. I'm shivering as hard and as fast as an earthquake can. Everywhere I look a darkness follows where there is no end, no hope, and no forgiving God to turn to. A beam of light shines through and as I run towards it... I run into a donkey.
The donkey stares with sorrowful eyes, he too lives in this shadow of darkness, trapped inside a woven rope cage. Somehow I knew if I left him there, he'd only face an ultimate and tragic death. I quickly looked around and cut the ropes with a shard of shadow rock. The donkey brayed happily and in seconds he magically disappeared. I sat there wondering how this happened.
My contemplation shattered all of a sudden from a shrill scream. I located the sound from somewhere underneath a shadow tree. She had long, wavy purple hair, and was wearing a scaly dress reminiscent of fish scales. She embodied the perfect definition of beauty, but what made her so beautiful was her blue eyes and long, black, glittery wings.
“That donkey was to be killed and eaten!” She exclaimed to me.
“But there are so many other things to eat.” I explained.
“Yes, but only one magical donkey that can be used to turn me into a full grown fairy so that I may grant children's wishes,” she huffs.
“You mean like metamorphosis? Like when a caterpillar turns into a butterfly?” I respond quizzically.
“Yes, but alas the donkey has been freed! There is a chance of getting it back, but I cannot leave. I must gather food for the other fairies in these dark woods.” She explains.
“Let me go. I'll find your donkey. I can return him to you.” I respond. The fairy seemed excited.

“Thank you.” She beams.
“Your welcome. I'm Doni,” I said.
“I'm Ericka. The donkey is located just above the Earth's stratosphere. Here are some temporary wings you can use to get there.” Ericka turns and walks away to search for food as I fly off to find the donkey.
Once I spot the donkey, I land near him and try to grab him, but the donkey runs away from me. I try several times to catch him only to be kicked and run away from. I hear laughter and turn to see a man with long brown hair and beard.
“How about you try,” I snapped.
The man chuckles and with a wink, snaps his fingers and the donkey disappears. I stared at this man for a long time before asking, “who are you?”
The man ignores my question and instead asks, “why are you trying to bring that donkey back down to the forest?”
I replied, “because there's a fairy who wants to eat it so she can grant kids wishes.”
The man ponders this for a moment and says, “why not kiss it instead?”
I looked disgusted, “Kiss it? EW! But why? Tell me, who are you?”
Yet once again, he ignores my question. He just smiles and vanishes. I want to know who the man is but that would have to wait for another day, I needed to go to Ericka to see if her donkey made its way there. I flew back to discover the donkey with Ericka, who cheered happily and said to me, “Thank you for returning him!”
“Hey Ericka. Instead of killing an innocent donkey, why not kiss it?” I ask skeptically. She stares at me for a brief moment and I can see she's trying to process this. She finally nods and walks over to the donkey to kiss him.
At first nothing happens, until Ericka's wings begin to grow and a magical wind appears instantly in her hands. She cheers as the forest appeared to fill with light, love, and hope after all.
Still grinning, she says, “thanks to you, I can be a full grown fairy and grant wishes to all. I won't have to kill after all.”
She hugs me and I smile just knowing that I saved an innocent creature from an unnecessary death.
For my Creative Writing course in college, I had to write a story using some vocabulary words that my colleagues came up with. As a result of that, I came up with this cute little fairy tale. Enjoy!

Nice! I think that this is definitely more of a kid's story, but it has a few more subtle, deeper themes for older people. So, it's kinda like all ages welcome! Good job!:) (Smile)
